Keep Juba clean

A long time ago there was this famous slogan: keep Juba clean. How I long for those days! Alas, with the new regime in the Ministries, and lots of people pouring into town in droves, keeping Juba clean is a dream from another world.

Juba has become an unhealthy place, even for the flies that reside in it. There is gabbage everywhere, especially around the markets,  next to my clinic in Konyokonyo and custom.  Children defecate wherever they want, behind tress, under the trees and in old buildings. I wonder where the guys from “Mejeles” are. They use to do a good job of keeping Juba clean.

Nobody seems to bother and the flies are having a feast everyday. When cholera strikes, people run like mad.  Keep Juba clean, fellas.

Welcome to Dr. Konyokonyo’s clinic!

Hi all. Welcome to the new people’s clinic opened in the middle of Konyokonyo Market, the busiest and vibrant market in the South Sudan, by none other than Dr. Konyokonyo himself.

Well, that I said, I will be offering free consultations in the first week, for all conditions under the sun.

In these pages, I will be giving my diagnosis at the country’s numerous ills, from the cancer of corruption in my own Ministry, the Ministry of Health, to the poor sanitaion and public health problems we face everyday. And by the way, don’t be surprised if my prescriptions are political. It will be just another medication, though a bitter one to swallow.

My motto is: “for all the ailments under the sun, the medications can be fun”.

I think I will get back to you later. I have patients waiting . . .
